We use a Sony DSR-250 DVCam Broadcast Quality Camera either on a Tripod for stability or Shoulder-Mounted for those impromptu shots on the move.
Back at base, we use the DSR-25 Player/Recorder to capture the tapes into the PC. This is done in 'real time'. Which means, if we used 3x 3hr tapes to film your event, it would take a minimum of 9hrs to capture those tapes into the computer. Yes, I did say a 'minimum' of 9hrs. Life, as we all know, is never that simple. Quite often when you're using a computer, it seems to have a mind of it's own and in this case, doesn't capture everything. So you have to do it again, and again, then, maybe again . . . You get the picture, it can turn into a nightmare, before you even start the editing. I know, stop moaning and get on with it.
We have a 3ghz 'Dual Core Processor' Computer with '10 Terabytes' of storage, to do the editing, using Sony Vegas Pro Editing Software and Sony DVD Architect Software to make up the menus and chapters, and to burn to a Master DVD.
The Master DVD is then placed in our 3 way DVD Duplicator
where we burn off your orders, ready for printing.
All in all, a pretty good package, but Kevin's not happy with that, he's hoping to upgrade the computer to a 'Quad Core Processor' to speed things up a bit. When you've finished the editing, you need to 'Render' the video into the correct format for 'Authoring' and burning.
At the moment that normally takes about 10 to 12 hours. With a 'Quad Core' that should be reduced quite a bit, to about 5 to 6 hours, so speeding up that part of the operation.
And last, but by no means least, our most important piece of equipment, Kevin,
where he loves to be, up the tower, filming.
Its just a shame I didn't catch him smiling!
